On September 8, 2021, TABC members sat down with the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) to discuss progress on the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) as well as TABC’s initial recommendations for the TTC. USTR staffers gave TABC members an overview of the TTC’s ten working groups, including their goals, structure, and immediate priorities. The discussion focused particularly on the Global Trade Challenges working group, which aims to avoid unnecessary EU-US barriers to trade, counter competition from non-market countries, develop labor-friendly trade policies, and jointly strengthen the competitiveness of the EU and US economies. Discussion also touched on the importance of stakeholder participation in the TTC and ongoing efforts to create opportunities for stakeholder input. The conversation also covered the expected timeline for upcoming discussions between US and EU principals.
