Exchange of Letters on Safe Harbour

On January 27, TABC sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker urging for guidance and a push to conclude a new Safe Harbour agreement that will guarantee both legal certainty for American and European businesses on data flows between the EU and U.S. and an adequate level of data privacy and protection for European citizens.

On January 28, European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip sent a response to TABC stating that  the Commission shares ‘ the sense of importance [attached] to having a sound and predictable legal framework to facilitate transatlantic commercial transactions…[and] are continuing our intensive discussions with our U.S. partners to devise a Safe Harbour successor arrangement with sufficient data protection safeguards.’
