TABC met with Peter Berz to address the EU’s trade policy relations with Asia. He provided an overview of the European Commission’s Asia strategy and regional developments. The negotiations for an FTA between Singapore and the EU were completed in December 2012, with the initialing of the agreement taking place in September 2013. The EU is further negotiating FTAs with Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand, and remains open to start negotiations with other partners in the region. Given Peter’s experience at DG Trade’s US Desk, he is in a key position to identify policy areas in which the transatlantic business community could help to positively shape trade initiatives in the region.
